The 1979 Los Angeles Rams season was the team's 42nd year with the National Football League and the 34th season in Los Angeles. It was the final season for the franchise in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as owner Carroll Rosenbloom previously announced the Rams would move to Anaheim Stadium for the 1980 season.
The Rams won their seventh-consecutive West title in 1979, and went to the Super Bowl for the first time. It was the team's only Super Bowl appearance while based in Los Angeles, and their first appearance in a league championship game since 1955. It would be the Rams' last division title for six seasons.
The 1979 Rams were the first team in history to have a less than a +50 point differential and make it to the Super Bowl. (The Rams scored only 14 points more than their opponents in 1979.) 32 years later, the New York Giants, also with a 9-7 record, became the first time to reach the Super Bowl with a negative point differential (-6).
